When a black and white invert helps
Scanned film, whiteboard photos, and line art often read better as a negative. A white page with dark ink becomes a dark field with light marks, which is easier to overlay or print on dark stock.
Color photos work here too. The tool first measures luminance, then inverts that gray value, so skin tones and skies collapse into a single negative scale.
